Chaos ensues as six top 25 teams fall

In a week that was supposed to be boring and full of easy wins for college football's top tier, it was absolute chaos Saturday night.

Of particular note is the defeat of the previously ranked No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide on the road to Vanderbilt, thanks to an outstanding performance from quarterback Diego Pavia. With the Crimson Tide trying to fight their way back into the game, Pavia and the Commodores ended the game, resulting in a field full of fans and a lost goal post.

The Tennessee Volunteers also suffered an upset and lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks thanks to a strong defensive performance.

After Alabama and Tennessee and Georgia suffered losses the week before, the SEC's top teams, aside from Texas, all have a loss. There couldn't be a better week for the Missouri Tigers to lose, especially in a blowout loss.

UMass: 34-20 loss to Northern Illinois
Auburn: 31-13 loss to No. 5 Georgia
No. 1 Alabama: 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt
No. 21 Oklahoma: Bye week
South Carolina: 27-3 loss to No. 12 Ole missed
Mississippi State: Bye week
Arkansas: 19-14 win over No. 4 Tennessee

The Arkansas Razorbacks were the Tigers' only remaining team to record a win in Week 6 after defeating the former top-five Volunteers. Alabama fell victim to a massive upset, Auburn and South Carolina were eliminated, and UMass dropped its fifth game of the year. Overall, it was a bad weekend for the SEC, especially the weekend the Tigers play in the coming weeks.

No. 7 Penn State: 27:11 victory over UCLA
No. 8 Miami (FL): 39-38 win over California
No. 10 Michigan: 27:17 loss to Washington
No. 11 U.S.C 524-17 loss to Minnesota

Perhaps being close to Missouri in the AP poll in Week 6 was a curse, but three of the surrounding teams either lost or suffered a scare. The Hurricanes, playing in a hostile environment in California, staged an incredible comeback in the fourth quarter. Led by quarterback Cam Ward, the Hurricanes scored three points in a row and fought their way back into the game.

The Big 10 suffered two tough defeats in conference play, with two of its best teams losing to weaker opponents. The Wolverines' quarterback woes were compounded after they benched Alex Orji in favor of Jack Tuttle in the first quarter. He wasn't much better, throwing an interception late in the game to give the Huskies the win.

USC's Miller Moss also threw a late-game interception as they drove down the field to tie the game by star freshman safety Koi Perich. Running back Woody Marks ran wildly for 134 yards and a touchdown, but that wasn't enough to stop the Golden Gophers at home. Minnesota running back Darius Taylor also had an impressive ground performance with 144 yards on 25 carries. The loss eliminated the Trojans from the Week 7 polls.
