Christopher Reeve's son says his father is the “definitive Superman” before appearing in James Gunn's remake

As a new documentary Superman makes it clear that Christopher Reeve left a rich legacy not only in the form of the four Superman Films in which he starred, but also his three children: Matthew Exton Reeve, Alexandra Reeve Givens and Will Reeve.

Will particularly lives up to his father's cinematic image. He has a cameo role next year Superman Film reboot, although it warns Weekly entertainment Don't expect too much from his performance in the James Gunn-directed film.

“We need to curb my involvement,” Will tells EW. “I have no insight into the plot and I have no idea what the film is about other than Superman. Christopher Reeve is the ultimate Superman. But the coincidence of this film and the reboot of Superman is a blessing. We didn't necessarily calculate that; It just worked out wonderfully.”

But Will's greatest similarity to Superman may be his off-screen job as a journalist for ABC News rather than his upcoming film appearance. In that respect it is very similar Daily Planet Reporter Clark Kent… “but I have better eyesight,” jokes Will.

“But as a journalist, I appreciate a well-told, meaningful story that has an impact on the world,” says Will, adding of the documentary, “This film certainly does.”

Will, Matthew and Alexandra all provided on-camera interviews Superman in addition to archival footage and directors Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui's connection with people who knew their father (such as the family of Reeves' best friend Robin Williams). Speaking to EW, Bonhôte and Ettedgui vividly recall their first face-to-face meeting with the three Reeve children, having previously corresponded over Zoom.

“We went out to lunch together and when Ian and I came out we both had the exact same feeling, like we had met three parts of Christopher,” says Ettedgui. “We had met the thoughtful, poetic and artistic soul in Matthew. He is a screenwriter, creates special effects for films and has a really serious determination that was very Chris. Then you have Alexandra, who is like Chris's advocacy group. She works as a technology and democracy activist in Washington, DC and is a real powerhouse. The other two really look up to her, it's so sweet. In fact, they all look up to each other. And you have Will, who is like the performer. He is a journalist, but also a natural talent in front of the camera. When we first met him for breakfast in London it felt like meeting Superman.”

For his part, Will is just happy with it Superman finally shows the world the insider's view of his remarkable family.

“Overall, the response has been gratifying, fulfilling and meaningful on multiple levels,” he says. “As the son of Christopher and Dana Reeve, it's a joy, just from a child's perspective, it's meaningful that people love my parents and they love the opportunity to talk to the world about my parents. I am so proud to be her son. I’m so proud to be a part of this family.”
