GAME NOTES

  • The Rams are in their third year under head coach Jay Norvell who was named the program's 24th head coach on December 6, 2021. Norvell led his former program, Nevada, to Sonny Lubick Field in the 2021 finale on November 27 and returned to Fort Collins as the Rams' new head coach nine days later.
  • Colorado State is seeking its first bowl game since 2017, and its first under Norvell. Over the course of his five years in Reno (2017-21), Norvell compiled four straight seasons with seven-plus wins and led the Wolf Pack to four bowl games.
  • Colorado State set a Canvas Stadium and program record with 40,099 fans in attendance at the Rocky Mountain Showdown on September 14. There were also two consecutive sellouts after Ram Nation showed up for the home opener against Northern Colorado in September. 7.
  • Colorado State's offensive line is loaded with experience, including the Mountain West's most experienced player at center Jacob Gardner (49 starts in 49 career games). Gardner and the Rams' front unit allowed just 14 sacks last season – which ranked 11th nationally – and have allowed just five to four games in 2024 (31st).
  • The Rams will play seven home games in 2024 for the first time in program history, culminating with two rivalry games in the Rocky Mountain Showdown against Colorado (September 14) and the Border War against Wyoming (November 15). The last time both rivals were in Fort Collins in the same season was 1996.
  • Colorado State is looking to improve on both sides of the rushing game in 2024. Norvell identified 4.0 yards per carry as a number to strive for and wanted his offense to exceed that number and his defense to keep opponents under that number. So far so good, as the Rams are currently averaging 4.8 yards per carry and holding their opponents to just 3.8 yards per attempt.
