Colton scores 2 points, Avalanche gives the Sharks their sixth consecutive loss to start the season

Colton made it 2-0 at 16:37 with a wrist shot over Vanecek's blocker after Rantanen spotted him streaking behind the defense.

“He plays hard, plays off the edge,” Rantanen said of Colton. “He’s good on the power play with loose pucks and good at finishing. He’s improving.”

With 1:35 left, Eklund scored his first power play goal of the season, cutting the Avalanche lead to 2-1.

“It was a good pass from (Mikael Granlund) and I just tried to put it in the net and this time it worked,” Eklund said. “Our team has to find a way to put the puck in the net, and the power play is a big deal.”

Joel Kiviranta took a pass from Josh Manson and scored on a backhand shot from outside the goal crease at 9:57 of the third period to make the final score 3-1 for Colorado.

Makar scored an unanswered goal at 18:23 to make the final score 4-1.

“In this league there are wins and losses, right,” Warsofsky said. “We did some really good things tonight. There are some things we need to improve and develop individually and together.”

NOTES: Macklin Celebrini, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, did not play for the fifth straight game. Warsofsky said the center has resumed operations but is still being considered on a week-to-week basis. He was placed on injured reserve on October 12th – retroactive to October 10th – due to a lower-body injury. … Tyler Toffoli extended his point streak to four with one assist (three goals, two assists). … Colorado has won ten straight games against San Jose since November 13, 2021, making it the franchise's longest winning streak against a single opponent.
