With just minutes left until the first bell of the UFC 307 main event, Conor McGregor posted a series of tweets asking for odds on Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr, which ended in a knockout of either player.

His feeling was that any kind of light kicks would be an indication of who would lose, and he ultimately proved correct as Pereira overcame an early attack and landed a fierce knockout. Ultimately, he was given odds of 1/5, which meant that if he bet $1 million, he would make $200,000.

“Quick, what are the chances of a knockout in either direction here?” he wrote. “I’m going to put $1 million into it. A knockout happens here. I wouldn't be surprised if Rountree scores an insane knockout win here. I wouldn't be surprised if Periera falls unconscious from a knee jump.

“Whoever starts throwing little snappy kicks here, the first one to throw a little snappy kick here loses.” I guarantee it.”

When he finally got the odds, he tweeted, “I'm betting $1 million on a KO happening here in this main event one way or another.” The odds are 1/5. One million returns $200,000. Let's see…”

The Irishman was clearly thrilled with what he saw and was keen to know what Alex Pereira would say in his post-fight interview. However, he was disappointed when the champion did not immediately decide to move up to heavyweight to chase Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall.

“Great fight,” McGregor told fans in a quickly deleted video on his X account after the fight, in which he repeated Pereira’s “Chama” catchphrase and noted the lack of Brazilian fans in the building. “Absolutely great fight. Telephone booths that he can handle 100 percent.

“Absolute blast from phone booths, these are lean backs, yes? No feet, the feet don't go back there, no stepping back, it's not like leaning back. Boom, you're still right in front of him, boom. Rountree is just as tough.

“Lots of weapons, lots of them, and he could have let them go a little earlier, the inside-low kick, the outside-low. That was a great fight, wasn't it? Incredible.”

But things went downhill in the next part of the video as Pereira refused to call out anyone in the aforementioned division. After bellowing that the Brazilian should “claim heavyweight now,” he raged at the prospect of moving back up to middleweight to face Dricus Du Plessis.

“Oh, leave it out when he says drop to middleweight, don’t lie to yourself, that was a big break,” he complained. “You've already done it, (now) heavyweight.” And when Pereira didn't give the answer he wanted, McGregor ended the video by declaring: “I'm not watching your next one!”
