Controversial horror debut with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, although it's vomit-inducing

The bloody new horror film horror 3 comes with a warning after inducing zonking and vomiting, but audiences don't seem to mind – the film debuts to an impressive debut Rotten tomatoes Audience rating of 94 percent.

Critics are also enthusiastic about the escapades of serial killer Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), with the film receiving a 76 percent rating from critics.

Director Damien Leone's Terrifier films have earned a reputation among audiences for their extreme levels of violence and gore.

The previous film in the series reportedly left people “swooning” in theaters, which Leone denied was a “marketing ploy” designed to promote the independent film.

The new sequel has reportedly already caused incidents at preview screenings with Signature Entertainment, the film's UK distributor. The gala performance led to eleven walkouts, including nine during the opening scene, and caused one person to vomit.

Fucking disgusting now reports that the French Classification Committee has enforced a rare ban on the film, according to French film distributors ESC Éditions, Shadowz Films and Factoris Films.

Now in France it is forbidden for anyone under the age of 18 to watch anything Terrifier 3, something that has not happened in the country since Saw III was released in French cinemas in 2007. The rating corresponds to the NC-17 certification in the USA.

In a statement, the distributors said: “We can only regret this unexpected final decision, which will seriously hinder the release of the film that tens of thousands of French viewers have been waiting for and which is scheduled (and of course kept) for October 9th.”

“Terrifier 3 is an auteur film in the purest tradition of the slasher genre, with completely “grand-guignolesque” and unrealistic violence. The film never takes itself too seriously and we know viewers will have the distance and maturity needed to understand and appreciate this artistic approach.”

The Terrifier series has been one of the biggest independent horror hits of recent years, with its 2022 sequel grossing more than $15m (£11m) at the global box office against a modest budget of $250,000 -dollars (191,000 pounds).

Due to the films' popularity, Leone claimed that an unnamed major studio had approached him about rebooting Terrifier for a mainstream horror audience.

In conversation with Total filmhe said: “They wanted to reboot it for a wider audience. I wasn't interested in that. They said, 'It has to be rated R, it can't be as gory as you made it.'”

The 42-year-old director added: “I knew they would never let me shoot the first ten minutes of what I wanted to do (in Terrifier 3). So I thought, 'Let's just stay true to what this franchise is about.'

horror 3 opens today, October 11th, in the US and UK.
