Damar Hamlin's heart attack inspires free CPR training with Bengals players at Paycor Stadium

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Damar Hamlin's heart attack at Paycor Stadium during Monday Night Football inspired many to once again learn CPR.

The American Heart Association urged the public to “save the dead” by attending a free cardiopulmonary resuscitation training session at the stadium on Thursday evening.

The association hopes to gather 1,000 people at Paycor Stadium to honor the game in which Damar Hamlin suffered a heart attack. The event will include two sessions where participants can learn CPR on the field.

“They're put into small groups and they go away very well prepared. They know the three steps: call 911, start pressing firmly and quickly on the center of the chest, and then call the AED. Those are the three steps, and then we practice together with WHO DEY,” said Alyson Poling, executive director of the American Heart Association.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and several Bengals players will be in attendance to sign autographs and support this life-saving cause.

“The goal is to empower the public to act and react as spectators, because one second can mean human lives, as we saw last season at the Damar Hamlin,” said Lupe Lopez, Cintas' Regional Training and Compliance Manager.

According to the Heart Association team, 70 percent of CPR cases are performed on people you know.
