Daniel Craig talks about filming X-rated gay scenes with Omar Apollo in the upcoming film

Daniel Craig spoke about his experiences working with Omar Apolloregarding the sex scenes they filmed in their upcoming film Strange.

The film, an adaptation of William S. Burroughs' second novel of the same name, follows Craig as William Lee – a young man who pursues a U.S. Navy soldier recently discharged from Jacksonville, Florida.

Then Apollo comes into the picture, debuting his acting career as a hustler who shares an intimate scene with Craig's character, and the veteran star had nothing but good things to say after a recent screening of the film.

“Omar is a beautiful person,” Craig said in an interview with diversity. “You just have to look out for each other. That's all.

“We are all adults. We know what it’s about and try to portray the scene as realistically as possible.”

The actor had similar things to say about his co-star Drew Starkey, who plays the main love interest of Craig's character.

“We were lucky that (Starkey) made the movie, to have someone so young and so driven and also just knowledgeable about the world,” he said.

Apollo also talked about the pressure he felt to lose some weight in a conversation with him interview magazine

“I had to switch to the soup diet,” Apollo revealed. “Luca didn't tell me to lose weight, but when you're about to have sex with Daniel Criag, you're like, 'Oh, dude, I can't look away.' I weighed 200 pounds because I’m 6 feet tall.”

He continued: “It’s about where I should be honest. But I got to 181 when the movie came out. I lost 20 pounds because I read in the script that my character had a flat brown stomach.

“I thought, 'Damn, I'm actually not exhausted right now.' I had to get it together and tour with SZA. Luckily I didn’t have that many lines.”

After the film's first screening, critics were quick to praise Daniel Craig for his performance

Craig has won numerous awards throughout his career and some viewers are impressed with his role in this film Strange could lead him to more success.

The Independents Geoffrey McNab wrote“Craig's portrayal of the elegant, sardonic and self-destructive author is one of his boldest works.” No matter what sexual or drug-related misadventures befall him, Craig's queer author never loses his composure.

“Award voters will likely be shocked and moved by both his poise and his daring.”

Strange is scheduled for a limited release on November 27, 2024.
