Daniel Day-Lewis is coming out of retirement to star in his son's film Anenome

Daniel Day-Lewis is back on the call list.

The three-time Best Actor Oscar winner, who abruptly retired in 2017, is making films again.

He will be back on the big screen in “Anemone,” a film by his son Ronan Day-Lewis, making his directorial debut. The script was co-written by the actor and his son and “explores the complicated relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, as well as the dynamics of familial bonds,” according to Focus Features' announcement.

The 67-year-old Day-Lewis, who won Oscar gold for “My Left Foot” (1990), “There Will Be Blood” (2008) and “Lincoln” (2013), is widely considered one of the greatest acting talents of his time Generation.

In 2017, just before he received another Best Actor nomination for 2018's “Phantom Thread,” the Irish actor, known for his intensity and total immersion in his roles (he insisted that casting and Crew in “Lincoln” addressed him as Abraham Lincoln), suddenly on the business.

“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer work as an actor,” his representative Leslee Dart said at the time. “He is eternally grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years.” This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will be making any further comment on this matter.”

“Phantom Thread,” a drama set in the world of high fashion, reunited Day-Lewis with his “There Will Be Blood” director Paul Thomas Anderson. His other memorable films include “Last of the Mohicans” and “Gangs of New York.”

The press release did not provide a reason for Day-Lewis' decision to return to acting. It's unclear if he'll have a starring role in “Anemone,” which also stars Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green.

In a statement, Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski praised the father and son for writing “a truly extraordinary script,” adding, “We look forward to sharing their vision with the Plan B team.” to the audience.” Plan B is a production company founded by Brad Pitt and other Hollywood stars and dealmakers.

The New York Post published photos on Tuesday showing Day-Lewis riding a motorcycle on the streets of Manchester, England, last weekend. A camera crew films as Day-Lewis rides through the city with Bean carrying an oversized backpack sitting behind him.

Day-Lewis is seen smiling in several shots, partially obscured by a large motorcycle helmet and an impressive array of mutton sideburns.
