Davante Adams has more reasons to dislike the Chiefs than it seemed

With Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice dealing with a possible season-ending knee injury, the Chiefs must adjust to what life would be like without the star. They are tasked with replacing their biggest offensive threat so far this season while also missing Hollywood Brown and Isaiah Pacheco for most of the season.

With that in mind, the Chiefs have been linked to many different wide receivers on the trade market this season. The top name that continues to be mentioned is the Las Vegas Raiders' disgruntled star pass catcher Davante Adams, who will almost certainly be dealt this year.

If the Chiefs need to replace Rice, Adams is the talent they would need to acquire to do so effectively. But there are a lot of different obstacles in the way.

While Adams would likely like to play with one of the best quarterbacks of this generation if he were to aim for a Super Bowl, there are many obstacles that would prevent the Chiefs from achieving that. These obstacles do not stand in the way of the other teams trying to get him.

NFL insider Adam Schefter made some good arguments as to why a trade for Davante Adams might not be the most realistic outcome for the Chiefs this year. Schefter mentioned a point that many fans miss.

“Adams also may not be excited about playing in Kansas City, where he was charged with assault for suppressing an official media report after a game in October 2022,” Schefter wrote. “Adams had pushed the man, identified by police as Ryan Zebley, who worked as a freelance photographer for ESPN. The misdemeanor charge was later dropped.”

Now, I don't think this incident alone would be enough to deter Adams from wanting to play with Mahomes and the Chiefs. But given the complexity of their offense and the fact that Kansas City and Las Vegas are bitter rivals, I don't think these two parties will come together in a trade.

Contractually, the Chiefs don't have enough money to add Adams to their roster without going over the cap. It's doubtful the Raiders would be willing to buy out part of his contract to make it work for the Chiefs.

The more realistic options for Adams might be the Pittsburgh Steelers or even the New York Jets.
