David Montgomery injury update: Latest news on Lions RB status in Week 7

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has been one of the team's best offensive players this season, but the standout running back now has injury concerns during the Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Montgomery, who is in the midst of a sensational season and recently secured a contract extension, suffered the injury on a carry in the first quarter against the Vikings.

Montgomery appeared to have suffered a leg injury in the first quarter of the divisional contest against Minnesota and had to be taken off the field. Here's the latest on the Lions' running back.

Update on David Montgomery's injury

UPDATE: Great news because Montgomery was spotted on the exercise bike on the sidelines, which at least means he avoided a serious injury. However, we'll see if Montgomery gets back into the game.

According to Justin Rogers of the Detroit Football Network, the injury appears to have occurred to Montgomery's left leg, although the exact cause is not clear at this time.

The worst news is that Montgomery had to be helped off the field and was unable to put any weight on his leg.

Of course, losing Montgomery in this game would be a devastating blow, especially given the Lions' poor starting position. Montgomery was the epitome of a stud for Detroit through five games.

With Montgomery out, fellow running back Jahmyr Gibbs will do the majority of the work. The Lions also have Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki, who are there to help.

We will update this article as soon as an update on Montgomery is available.
