Detroit Lions vs. Titans: Live score updates, highlights, injury news

The Detroit Lions (5-1) and Tennessee Titans (1-5) meet on Sunday afternoon in the first Detroit contest of the year against an AFC opponent. The Lions have lived up to their status as Super Bowl contenders through the first two months of the season, but are experiencing their first real turmoil of the season. They lost their top four fullbacks with Aidan Hutchinson, Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes on injured reserve and Josh Paschal is out this week due to illness.

Additionally, 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams is out and serving a two-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. While the Lions have numerous other weapons in their passing arsenal, none are capable of impacting the way Detroit's defense plays more than Williams and his speed.

And while the Lions are clearly the better team on paper, this league lives by the “any given Sunday” mantra for good reason. The Titans only won one game, but they held an early lead in five of their six games. If they can muster a full four quarters, they could be more dangerous than their record suggests.

We'll be following the Week 8 matchup here in this post. When the game begins at 1:00 p.m. ET, come back to this post and hit the refresh button for drive-by-drive analysis, score updates and highlights for the next three hours. When the game is over, this post will become a recap.

First quarter

The Titans won the toss and drew. However, Jared Goff and the Lions' offense didn't last long. On the first play of the game, Arden Key beat Taylor Decker around the corner for a sack, and Detroit couldn't fight back and quickly went out for a three-pointer.

Mason Rudolph, replacing Will Levis, completed his first pass of the day to Calvin Ridley for 13 yards. But on his next pass, Rudolph felt pressure from Levi Onwuzurike and threw it directly to linebacker Trevor Nowaske.

The Lions only needed two runs to cash in as two runs from David Montgomery gave Detroit the win 7:0 Lions lead.

The Titans were able to get into midfield and that was it. A tackle for loss by Alim McNeill set up the third and then Rudolph tried to score Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, but Lions cornerback Carlton Davis was there to knock the ball away and force a punt.

The Lions were able to get a first down, but then just fell behind. Goff took a cover sack for a 13-yard loss on second down, and when he tried to go deep on third down, he was sacked again and fumbled the ball. Luckily for Detroit, Kevin Zeitler was there to pounce on the ball.

Tennessee surprised the Lions with a play-action rollout when Rudolph hit tight end Josh Whyle for a 33-yard gain to start their next drive. A few plays later, he hit Ridley all the way to the Lions' 11-yard line. Then Rudolph had a quarterback keeper where he beat Nowaske for an 11-yard sprinter and a juke 7:7 draw.

The Lions quickly struck back when Jahmyr Gibbs left the first play of the ensuing drive untouched for a 70-yard touchdown run. 14-7 Lions.

However, the Titans continued to challenge Detroit's defense. After getting to a second-and-18, Rudolph found Ridley for a 47-yard gain after getting past Amik Robertson.

They kept feeding Ridley all the way into the red zone as the game entered the second quarter.

Second quarter

Two plays into the quarter, Rudolph found Westbrook-Ikhine for a 5-yard touchdown and one 14-14 draw.
