Devin White, who was inactive for the Eagles' first four games, was released

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles released linebacker Devin White on Tuesday, the team announced.

The Eagles signed White to a one-year, $4 million free agent contract in March to bolster a linebacker group that struggled in 2023. There appeared to be a positive start for White as he worked with the first team defense throughout training camp. However, by the end of the summer, former Georgia star Nakobe Dean came out strong, edging out White over Zack Baun in the battle for the starting spot.

White has been inactive in each of the Eagles' four games this season. He did not travel to Brazil for the opening game against the Green Bay Packers because he was struggling with an ankle injury. He was a healthy substitute for the next two games. White missed the last game in Tampa Bay for personal reasons.

The Eagles and White agreed, according to a league source, that the team would now release him before the trade deadline (if he would be subject to waivers) while agreeing to terms that could provide Philadelphia with possible financial savings.

White, 26, played his first five seasons with the Bucs, making the NFL All-Rookie Team and earning a Pro Bowl nomination in 2021. Last season, he started in 13 games and finished with 83 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

He struggled with foot and groin injuries throughout the 2023 season and was later replaced in the starting lineup by KJ Britt.
