Sarfaraz Khan failed to open his account in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Sarfaraz Khan started at No. 4 for India in the first innings of the ongoing first match against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday (October 17) but failed to open his account. On the fourth ball of the 10th over, he was sent back to the pavilion by Matt Henry for a three-ball duck. New Zealand opener Devon Conway completed a great one-handed catch from Sarfaraz by diving to his right.

The video of Sarfaraz's flying catch by Conway was shared by the official X-handle of Jio Cinema and went viral on the internet in no time.

Sarfaraz, who scored a double century for Mumbai in the first innings of the Irani Cup 2024 match against Rest of India in Lucknow earlier this month, was included in the playing XI in place of Shubman Gill. Gill, who has hit three centuries in eight Tests so far in 2024, was not 100% fit and was therefore ruled out.

Sarfaraz came to bat at No. 4 after Virat Kohli was sent off for a nine-ball duck from William O'Rourke, but he managed to stay at the crease for three balls. He became the third Indian batsman to return to the pavilion in the first session of the second day's play of the ongoing first India-New Zealand Test.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was the first to be dismissed. On the third ball of the seventh over, he was bowled clean by Tim Southee for two runs from 16 balls. Kohli came in at No. 3 in the Test for the first time since August 2016 but he didn't do much. He was caught by Glenn Phillips on the last ball of the ninth over.

The first day of play of the first India-New Zealand Test was washed out due to rain and there is a high chance that rain will affect the match on the second day too.

India have made two changes to the playing eleven for the first Test against New Zealand. Along with Sarfaraz, Kuldeep Yadav also plays for the hosts. He took the place of Akash Deep.
