Diamondbacks Gameday Thread, No. 157: Sept. 23 vs. Giants

I hope this isn't my last recap of 2024, although chances are it will be. Even if the D-backs make the postseason, next Monday is a travel day before the playoffs begin. I believe the day after that is also a travel day, between Games 2 and 3 of the NLDS. So for me to recap again, the D-backs will have to at least make the NL Championship Series. Fingers crossed. At least my last recap isn't yesterday's. That would be a bad way to end the 2024 season. I'm kind of glad it wasn't some poor guest recapper who had to do it, though, and it continues my streak of recaps of memorable D-backs games, like the longest innings and time, and now arguably the biggest blown lead.

The Padres, Mets and Braves all have an off day today and begin their penultimate series tomorrow (it will be evened after our off day on Thursday). That gives the team a chance to reduce their magic number. At least the Snake Bytes writer will have an easy calculation to do tomorrow regarding magic numbers as the hunt for 91 wins (at the time of writing!) continues. The Giants have been on a roll lately, going 5-1 on this road trip. But they really aren't that good. A win tonight with Eduardo Rodriguez would be a strong sign that the team has recovered from last night's horror show and is ready for the challenge of last week.
