Court documents confirm that Dirt Cheap's parent company, Channel Control Merchants, has filed for bankruptcy and will begin closing all stores in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.

Dirt Cheap locations in Louisiana include stores in Bossier City, Lafayette, Monroe, Houma, Hammond, Slidell, Amite, Franklinton and Bogalusa.

With all Dirt Cheap locations closing, the company will soon see a drop in sales. These sales are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The holding company behind Dirt Cheap's parent company, HDC Holdings II, also has interests in Dirt Cheap's sister stores, Dirt Cheap Building Supplies and Treasure Hunt, as well as other companies.

The companies' stores are known for purchasing and reselling products from retailers and manufacturers that come from overstock, closeouts, bankruptcies, liquidations and returns. These products are then marketed and sold in Dirt Cheap stores at deeply discounted prices.

Founded 30 years ago in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Dirt Cheap has expanded throughout the southeastern United States.

Dirt Cheap now joins the growing list of retailers like Big Lots that have filed for bankruptcy.
