Disney World and Universal Orlando announce some closures as Hurricane Helene approaches Florida

As Hurricane Helene approaches landfall in Florida this week, Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World Resort are reviewing their operations.

According to a recent statement, Walt Disney World Resort will close Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park on Thursday, September 26. In addition, Beachcomber Shack and Typhoon Lagoon Umbrella rentals for Thursday are also canceled.

Other Disney activities that will be canceled or closed on Thursday due to Helene include the following tours and mini golf experiences:

  • Enjoy the savannah
  • Experience rhinos up close
  • On the road with giants
  • Wild Africa Trek
  • Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Minigolf
  • Winter Summerland Mini Golf

Universal Orlando announced that Universal Volcano Bay water park will be closed on Thursday, September 26. Park management expects Volcano Bay to reopen on Friday with regular hours.

They cited their severe weather policy, which relates to whether the National Hurricane Center issues a hurricane or tropical storm warning or declares a state of emergency for Orlando within a week of their arrival.

In such a case, guests can contact the Universal Orlando team and cancel tickets and hotel rooms booked directly with Universal Orlando without incurring cancellation or rebooking fees.

“We want you to feel safe and will work directly with you to best meet your needs,” park officials said in a statement.

How to watch FOX WEATHER

Helene is expected to make landfall in Big Bend, Florida, on Thursday evening as at least a Category 3 hurricane.
