DJ Moore is the Chicago Bears' X-Factor for their Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders

The Chicago Bears are in Landover, Maryland this weekend to take on the first-place Washington Commanders, so we had to get an overview of the Bears' opponents from someone who knows them well. In her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll previewed the upcoming game with some help from Craig Hoffman, host of The Craig Hoffman Show on Washington DC's The Team 980 (WTEM am). Craig is as involved with the Commanders as they come and this was an outstanding interview.

Commanders' rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is a game-time decision, but Craig feels if he can play he should still be effective.

“This is a guy who was really, really good at developing a routine and being able to prepare mentally without having to be at practice because – people have probably heard about the virtual reality stuff, that he does – so they can complete anything. “When he has Kliff Kingsbury in his ear, he can see defenses, learn and do all those things without actually having to throw from what they're doing.”

If Daniels doesn't go, it will be Marcus Mariota, and while he's not the quarterback Daniels showed off, he'll still be able to do things with his legs.

“So that’s the part that doesn’t really change much because Marcus Mariota, for example, is a really good runner. If I'm Chicago, I try to force him to play as a passer as much as possible because I think I could probably get some turnovers. He's not a very good rhythm passer. But for the running game, they’re going to use the quarterback run quite a bit this weekend.”

As for Chicago's offense, Craig says the Commanders don't have an answer for DJ Moore.

“This is tough because as Commanders fans know all too well and as Bears fans like to remind everyone here in D.C., DJ Moore rushed for 75,000 yards and scored 42 touchdowns with this team last year. Yeah, he’s evil and I don’t think they have a great match for him because I don’t know how many there are.”

In fact, Craig said Washington's secondary has been poor all year and Chicago's passing game should have success.

“DJ Moore and Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze scare me. Like Rome wouldn't scare me so much if he was a two or a one for them, but as a three, like a man… And then (Cole) Kmet, I mean, they (Washington) don't have a big one all the time Solution against tight ends.”
