“Do you want the Yankees to win?”

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo wants to know what’s going on at the MLB Replay Operations Center in Chelsea, New York.

Everyone has issues with repetition, but for one reason or another, Major League Baseball has settled on a philosophy that says it won't overturn an on-field decision when the game is close. Instead, those in Chelsea's replay dressing room will remain true to the call on the pitch. And that's exactly what happened in Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. stole second base after a leadoff single, or rather, he was found to have come in before the tag. Upon closer inspection, Chisholm wasn't sliding into second base very well and his foot popped out about six inches in front of the bag. Royals infielder Michael Massey tagged him.

Well, much to Russo's dismay, that wasn't the case on the field.

After Anthony Volpe and Oswaldo Cabrera struck out, Chisholm scored the game-winning run on an RBI single from Alex Verdugo. The Yankees would win Game 1 6-5, although the Bronx Bombers lost 4-2 in Game 2 on Monday night.

That's beside the point because Russo was fuming on his radio show Monday.

“These umpires and this baseball replay system are an absolute disgrace,” Russo said. “How does someone who's at Chelsea – some umpire who's blind – how can someone sit there and watch the replay with Chisholm on the slide in the seventh inning on Saturday night at 5-5… How does someone do it at a “Repetition not to overturn?” the piece? How the hell is he safe? I mean, what game are you watching? Do you want the Yankees to win? Is that the deal?

“Baseball says we have to have New York in the World Series. I mean, how on earth can you tell me (Ron) Darling said it, (Bob) Costas said it, when you've seen this over and over again; the world saw it. How on earth can you tell me that Chisholm isn't out and it wasn't incontrovertible evidence?

“What perspective are you looking for? TBS is spending a billion dollars to televise these games; They have a million cameras. We've seen all angles. The angle you needed to see is Chisholm. The Yankees don't score in the bottom of the (seventh) inning if they overrule it – which they should have done. They don't score. The next player to strike out in the inning was Cabrera. Verdugo never comes up with two outs and a man on second and lines a single to left field.

“I mean, it’s mind-boggling that they screwed this up in this situation. I mean, I can't believe that those idiots at Chelsea – and I'm sorry, call them whatever you want – must be doing their job properly. If you do a replay and take nine minutes and the whole world sees that guy is out on the slide at second base, you can't say, “There's not enough evidence,” or have someone tell me Call stands. The call doesn't last! He’s out!”
