Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw makes a hilarious attack on the Astros for cheating

Clayton Kershaw probably didn't wake up thinking about calling the 2017 Houston Astros this week. However, when asked who the best double-hit duo was, an amusing thought came to mind.

“I try to think about the teams I played against,” Kershaw told Jayson Stark of The Athletic. “Like the best teams. I mean, as far as starting, (Jose) Altuve and (Alex) Bregman were good (in Houston). But they cheated, so it’s not really the same.”

Needless to say, Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman don't have the talent that Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts have.

The Astros' sign-stealing embarrassed Kershaw, arguably the greatest pitcher of the generation, in Game 5 of the 2017 World Series. Houston drove the veteran southpaw off the mound by scoring six runs in the fifth inning.

The Astros would win Game 5 with a final score of 13-12 at Minute Maid Park. History would be tarnished as the Astros would win the Fall Classic in seven games.

After an investigation by the commissioner's office, it was discovered that Houston used a trash can system to seal its fate in October. It was a nightmare for Kershaw and it's obvious he hasn't forgotten what could have been.

Kershaw likely would have been the Most Valuable Player of the 2017 World Series, but he was stripped of that award after his performance in Game 5. According to Evan Gattis, the team knew what shots Kershaw would throw in Game 5 at Minute Maid Park.

Houston's lineup didn't pivot, missing even a single break ball from Kershaw. In 2019, MLB discovered that the Astros had been electronically stealing signs throughout the 2017 season, but Kershaw and the Dodgers' reputations had already been damaged.

To make matters worse, no player on the 2017 Houston Astros was ever suspended and the team retained their championship trophy.

Let's look to 2024: The Dodgers are just one game away from the World Series. It's so close that fans can practically taste it.

The Dodgers play their final game Friday at Citi Field with Jack Flaherty on the mound. The Los Angeles team has a chance to close out the NLCS on Friday night in New York.

Although Kershaw won't take the mound for the Dodgers at any point in the 2024 postseason, the veteran left-hander will obviously earn a World Series ring if LA wins it all.

He has also already announced that he will return in 2025.
