Dodgers' Freddie Freeman could miss Game 6: 'His swing isn't right'

NEW YORK – After watching injured first baseman Freddie Freeman go hitless in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he would consider bringing the eight-time All-Star in for Game 6 on Sunday in LA.

“I’ll have a talk with him tomorrow,” Roberts said after a 12-6 loss to the New York Mets. “But I think his swing is not right. I'm sure it's the ankle. We’ll have that conversation, but not having him for Game 6 is certainly an option, yes.”

Freeman sprained his right ankle on September 26th. Medical staff told him the injury typically requires four to six weeks of rest. Freeman returned to action after eight days. He did not record an extra base hit this postseason.

Freeman recorded two singles and scored a run in a win in Game 1. He has since gone cold, with one hit in 15 at-bats. He sat when New York started a left-handed pitcher in Game 4. The Mets will use left-handed starter Sean Manaea on Sunday.

In order to play, Freeman spent between four and five hours of treatment before each game. He was unable to perform his usual pre-game routine. And doctors have told him that his ankle won't improve until he can rest over the winter.

“It's like running a 100-meter hurdles, I keep hitting the same hurdle and running right into it every time,” Freeman said. “It is what it is and I'm doing my best. I will have intensive treatment tomorrow and try to get this swing back in order.”
