Dolphins RB De'Von Achane is out for the rest of the game after suffering a concussion

The Miami Dolphins will have to finish their Week 5 game against the New England Patriots without the services of running back De'Von Achane. Achane suffered a concussion and is out for the remainder of the competition.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on social media.

Before leaving the game, Achane shot the ball three times for 18 yards. Luckily for the Dolphins, starting running back Raheem Mostert returned for this game against New England, so Miami isn't completely lost in the backfield.

Achane had been the Dolphins' starter in recent weeks while Mostert was sidelined due to injury. Except for Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, he wasn't very productive.

On the year, he rushed for 165 yards and a score on 53 carries. The young running back was expected to help get Mostert back into the lineup, but that plan is now scrapped.

Miami's offensive attack hasn't been very strong since starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined with an injury a few weeks ago. The Dolphins have tried every week to get things going, but to no avail.

The team has used multiple quarterbacks in Tagovailoa's absence, but nothing has worked so far. Even with star wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins' normally potent offensive attack has stalled.

Without Achane, the task for this team will be even more difficult. The hope is that Mostert can stay healthy and lead the backfield forward.

Mostert has developed significantly into the Dolphins' No. 1 running back over the last two seasons. In 2022, he passed for 891 yards and three touchdowns.

And in 2023, he finally had his breakout season. He rushed the ball for 1,012 yards on the ground and scored 18 touchdowns. His efforts helped Miami reach the postseason last year.

Miami enters Sunday with a 1-3 record on the season and if they can't beat New England today, things could get bad. Luckily, Tagovailoa is expected to return in Week 8, but it will be very difficult to keep things afloat until then.

But the first task will be to achieve victory on the road against the Patriots.
