The 23-year-old winger scored his second and third goals of the preseason – including the winner in overtime – as part of the Blues' third-period comeback against Chicago on Saturday.

Holloway scored the first goal for the Blues early in the third period when his shot deflected off a Blackhawks defender in front of him, making the game 2-1. After fellow former Oiler Nathan Walker tied the game and sent it into overtime, Holloway sent Blues fans home happy by beating Petr Mrazek with a wrister off the rush.

That makes Holloway have three goals in just two preseason games after scoring in his preseason debut against Utah last week. He is the only Blue to score multiple goals this pre-season.

His hot start to the preseason gives Holloway a leg up in the fight for a roster spot, although he still sits behind Pavel Buchnevich and Brandon Saad among the Blues' left wingers, a position that includes fellow Calgary-area native Jake Neighbours heard.

Holloway played Saturday night alongside Radek Faksa and Mathieu Joseph on what is expected to be the Blues' third line in the regular season. That line appears to be pretty much set in stone, as Holloway played in his first game with Faksa and the Blues' top six is full of returnees. Despite the greater opportunity in St. Louis, Holloway is expected to assume much of the same role he held in Edmonton prior to the tender offer.

His bid partner Philip Broberg is still waiting for his second preseason game after he and Holloway made their debut together last week in Des Moines. He joins most of the Blues' NHL roster, having played in just one of the team's four preseason games.

Broberg is currently expected to play on the Blues' second pairing with Justin Faulk. Both he and Pierre-Olivier Joseph appear poised to take minutes away from veterans Nick Leddy and Ryan Suter this season.

The Blues' next game is Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Their first game against the Oilers is December 7th.
