Early voting is underway in much of southern New England

On Saturday, Massachusetts voters joined Rhode Island residents in voting at designated locations in their local cities and towns. In Connecticut, early voting is scheduled to begin Monday, while in the Ocean State early voting has been underway since Wednesday.

Unofficial statistics released by the Rhode Island Secretary of State show that a significant number of voters took advantage of the opportunity. As of close of business Friday, 26,816 voters said they had cast their ballots. These numbers include mail-in ballots received by the Board of Elections as well as ballots cast statewide.

According to unofficial state figures, combined early voting by mail and in-person voting represents 3.4% of Rhode Island's electorate.

Because the kickoff is Saturday, Massachusetts offers weekend voting, but hours vary by community. Voters can find local locations and hours for early voting on the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website.

Only a few municipalities in Rhode Island offer weekend voting; Firstly, Exeter is listed as offering Saturday voting “on request”. These hours and locations are listed on the Rhode Island Secretary of State website.

The Connecticut Secretary of State's website says voting will be available Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
