Florida Republican suggests Greene faces 'investigation' over hurricane allegations

Republican Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez of Florida suggested Wednesday that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) should get her “head examined” after she claimed that humans can control the weather.

“Humans cannot create or control hurricanes,” Gimenez posted on the social platform X as Hurricane Milton tore through his home state. “Anyone who thinks it’s possible needs to have their head examined.”

Last week, as several Southern states began grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Greene wrote on X: “Yes, they can control the weather.”

“It’s ridiculous for someone to lie and say it can’t be done,” her post reads.

Greene made a number of other claims about the manufacturing of the storm in recent days.

Greene's post is not the first time Georgia lawmakers have posted about the weather. In April, she defended online her claim that a solar eclipse and an earthquake were signs from God calling people to repentance.

Hurricane Milton is barreling toward Florida's west coast. It is expected to make landfall late Wednesday, bringing a life-threatening storm surge.

It is the second major storm in recent weeks, with much of the Southeast still recovering from Helene. The aftermath of this storm sparked a flood of misinformation online, and officials are sounding the alarm that it is complicating the already difficult recovery and response process.

Republicans, including former President Trump, have baselessly claimed that the administration was withholding aid from Republican hurricane victims and diverting aid to migrants. These claims have been debunked.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has set up a “Hurricane Rumor Response” page where users can see debunked rumors about the agency's response efforts for Helene and Milton.

The White House has launched a Reddit page with official updates on Hurricane Milton and the Biden administration's ongoing response and recovery efforts.

The Hill has reached out to Greene for comment.
