Former Notre Dame player makes incredible line drive catch in ALDS

Whatever team MLB fans are rooting for, they can all agree that this year's playoffs have been incredible so far. We haven't even reached the LCS yet. And Notre Dame fans can say one of them contributed to that greatness.

Matt Vierling played three seasons for the Irish. Now in his fourth major league season, he's on the hunt for a World Series ring. In 2022, he had a chance to win with the Philadelphia Phillies, but they fell just two wins short. The following season he was transferred to the Detroit Tigers, one of the hottest teams at the moment.

In Game 3 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians, the Tigers had a 3-0 lead with two outs entering the seventh inning and runners on the first and second innings. David Fry, who set up the winning run, hit a hard line drive to the left side of the field that was sure to result in extra bases and probably scored both runners.

However, Vierling, who had driven one of the Tigers' runs with a sacrifice fly, was right at third base and he had timed his jump just so that he took away the hit and got his team out of the inning.

The score was 3-0 and the Tigers are one win away from advancing to their first ALCS in 11 years. Hopefully we see more from Vierling this offseason.
