According to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders are signing former University of Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder from the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad.

Ridder, a 2022 third-round draft pick who helped the Bearcats to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance in his fourth and final season as UC quarterback, was released by the Cardinals in August but then signed to their practice squad .

Aidan O'Connell replaced Gardner Minshew as the Raiders' starter before Week 6, but broke his thumb on Sunday and is expected to miss the next 4 to 6 weeks. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that the Raiders are placing O'Connell on injured reserve.

The Raiders have not yet announced their starting quarterback for Sunday's game in Las Vegas against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders visit Cincinnati the following week to face the Bengals at Paycor Stadium.

Ridder was traded to Arizona by the Atlanta Falcons in March.

Ridder has played in 19 regular season games with 17 starts in two NFL seasons, completing 64 percent of his passes for 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, along with five rushing touchdowns. Former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith benched Ridder after naming him the Falcons' starter prior to the 2023 season.

Ridder was a member of the Falcons when they lost at Cincinnati in 2022, but he did not play in that game.
