At his peak, Charlie Blackmon was one of the most feared hitters in baseball, taking advantage of Coors Field's unique hitting environment to score 104 runs from the first batting position in 2017 – a feat rarely accomplished by even the greatest hitters of all time.

On Monday, the longtime Colorado Rockies outfielder announced his retirement from baseball.

The 38-year-old outfielder has a career batting average of .292, on-base percentage of .352 and slugging percentage of .479, but those numbers dropped to .249/.320/.398 in 2024.

Blackmon was drafted by the Rockies in the second round of the 2008 MLB Draft out of Georgia Tech and spent his entire 14-year major league career with the franchise, appearing in 1,618 games and counting.

The Rockies — who made the playoffs just twice during Blackmon's career — are playing another losing season this week, hosting the St. Louis Cardinals for three games starting Tuesday and the Los Angeles Dodgers for three more games starting Friday.

Colorado's final game, and the final game for the entire MLB, is Sunday, giving Blackmon one last chance to say goodbye at the stadium he called home.
