Freeze warning brings chilly winter weather to parts of NY, New Jersey

The Big Apple woke up to its coldest day in months on Wednesday, with several surrounding suburbs facing frost and freeze warnings.

This week's forecast may give you goosebumps as a freeze warning has been issued for several counties in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley, while parts of Connecticut are under a freeze warning.

Tri-State residents should be on guard as temperatures dip below 30 degrees Wednesday through Thursday morning, the National Weather Service said.

Low temperatures Wednesday morning come a day after New York City recorded its coldest morning in five months, Fox Forecast Center meteorologist Jordan Overton told The Post.

“It was cool this morning, but it will be a little cool tomorrow too,” Overton said. “This is the coldest weather since May.”

As temperatures plummeted in the Big Apple, more northern New Yorkers have already woken up to below-freezing temperatures in parts of Dutchess and Ulster counties this week.

The lower temperatures also felt worse this week, as gale-force winds gusted over 50 mph on Monday but were only expected to reach around 20 mph on Wednesday, according to NBC 4.

The average overnight low temperature in Central Park is in the low 50s in mid-October, although temperatures on Thursday are expected to be about 10 degrees colder, the outlet reported.

The cold is expected to be short-lived and temperatures are likely to rise again this weekend.

“Temperatures will gradually begin to warm slightly starting today,” Overton said, with temperatures expected to “rise back into the 70s” over the weekend.

Cool conditions are expected in several Connecticut counties, including northern Fairfield, northern Middlesex, northern New Haven and northern New London. Warnings were also issued for western Passaic County in New Jersey and Orange and Putnam counties in New York.
