GAME REVIEW: St. Louis Blues 5, San Jose Sharks 4, OT

Two games, two wins, two behind.

It doesn't matter how the St. Louis Blues want to play from game to game, but the end result is all that matters.

Brayden Schenn scored a three-goal comeback 43 seconds into overtime for the Blues in a 5-4 win over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Thursday, spoiling the NHL debut of top pick Macklin Celebrini 2024 NHL Draft.

Schenn took a drop pass from Colton Parayko in his zone before racing through the neutral zone – past Celebrini – and firing a wrist shot from the left circle past Mackenzie Blackwood for the game-winning goal.

This came after defenseman Justin Faulk tied the game at 4-4, erasing a 4-1 Blues deficit heading into the third period.

The Blues, who were 0-2-1 against the last-place Sharks last season, appeared to be suffering their fourth straight loss to San Jose, and Celebrini was on his way to one in his NHL debut with a goal and an assist Victory. but the Blues (2-0-0) would win for the second straight time as they trailed by several goals this season. They managed to do this four times throughout last season.

It was also the fifth time in franchise history that the Blues rallied from a three-goal deficit in the third period to win.

After building a 4-1 lead after two periods with goals from Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli, San Jose rallied around a Pavel Buchnevich goal in the first period, then scored a power play goal from Fabian Zetterlund and a shorthanded goal by Barclay Goodrow Joel Hofer, who made 25 saves in the second half, took a 4-1 lead, the comeback beginning early in the third period.

Radek Faksa scored his first goal as a Blue at 2:54 when he fired a near post shot past Blackwood to make it 4-2.

Ryan Suter was in the game and scored his first goal as a Blue at 6:11 of the game, giving the Sharks a 4-3 lead and making the home team and their crowd a little nervous.

The Sharks appeared to be able to hold off the Blues until Faulk's shot from the edge of the left circle went through Blackwood and Jake Neighbors took the lead with 47 seconds left.

Coach Drew Bannister announced after the game that forward Alexandre Texier did not and cannot play due to an upper body injury. Texier, who had an assist in his Blues debut on Tuesday, a 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken, took part in the morning skate and completed the pregame warmup but was replaced by Zack Bolduc.

The Blues finish the trip Friday against the Vegas Golden Knights at 9 p.m.
