Gap x Cult Gaia collaboration puts an overdue twist on classic denim

When the Gap x Cult Gaia collaboration hits stores on Thursday, October 10th at 9 a.m. PT, it brings a new approach to classic fall denim.

Under creative director Zac Posen, Gap has pushed new aesthetic directions with the help of a rotating cast of co-designers. The Gap x Dôen collaboration brought cottagecore florals and prairie lace tops, while a recent collaboration with streetwear label Madhappy launched urban-luxe tracksuits in a variety of pastel hues. The collaboration between Gap and Cult Gaia expands the company's reputation for reliable jeans and timeless tees even further, with a 35-piece range that includes remixed logo sweatshirts, faux fur outerwear and even hardware-embellished briefs. Includes clothes.

Cult Gaia had a, well, cult This has followed since Jasmine Larian Hekmat opened its doors in 2012. The Los Angeles-based brand first went viral with its sculptural wooden Ark bag and won fans from Selena Gomez to Kaia Gerber with its cutout wedding guest dresses and cozy matching sets in earth tones. While Gap isn't tackling Cult Gaia's famous accessories (yet), the label has given Hekmat the opportunity to expand its definition of jeans, denim jackets, and party wear for the early holidays.

Standout pieces include an army green Gap logo sweatshirt that reads “Gaia,” an asymmetrical cropped denim jacket, a white button-down shirt with a cut-out back, and a structured denim corset that even Taylor Swift might be tempted to order. Since this is a collaboration with Gap, jeans are also featured and represented – but this time with a more directional, wide-leg shape. Prices range from $88 for the aforementioned top to $498 for a pair of leather pants.

“Reimagining Gap’s classic icons through the lens of Cult Gaia has been an amazing journey,” Hekmat said in a press release. “The collaboration brought together the classics and everyday practicality of Gap with the sculptural and artistic approach of Cult Gaia, uniting our two different creative forces.”

Tapping into It-girl brands is just one way Gap has been expanding its fashion prowess lately. The brand has also created a number of stunning tailored pieces, such as a white corset shirt dress for Anne Hathaway and a Met Gala denim dress for Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
