Glazer family pledges million donation to Hurricane Helene relief

TAMPA – Hurricane Helene didn't interrupt the Bucs' preparation for Sunday's home game against the Eagles.

But the devastating storm surge caused significant damage in many communities across the state, including in the Tampa Bay area.

That's why the Glazer family, which owns the Bucs, has pledged to donate $1 million to nonprofits helping Helene's victims.

“The flooding caused by Hurricane Helene's storm surge was devastating for many across the state and especially for our Tampa Bay community,” Bucs co-owner Darcie Glazer Kassewitz said in a statement released by the team Saturday.

“There are many areas in our community that need time and additional resources to begin recovery. We offer our full support to those affected and are extremely grateful for the heroic and courageous efforts of the many first responders and utility workers who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our community during this difficult time. ”

On Friday, Lightning owner Jeff Vinik announced that the Lightning Foundation would donate $2 million to relief efforts.

The Rays are expected to announce how they will support the effort next week.
