Google has sold a number of Pixel 9 phones

The overall smartphone market saw stable growth in 2024 after seeing its lowest sales in a decade in 2023. Things looked even better for the third quarter, with the first annual third quarter growth since 2018, and that could be due to a few things, like Apple and Google releasing their phones a little earlier than usual. In any case, it was a better year for many smartphone manufacturers.

Google, according to Counterpoint researchThey reportedly just achieved their highest smartphone volume in a quarter in Q3. While the study doesn't specifically attribute the record quarter to any particular device, we do know what Google just released.

The Pixel 9 series could be an early hit if these data are correct. Google has released 4 Pixel 9 series devices and all of them are excellent. We tested the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, as well as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and concluded that each device is impressive and potentially a leader in its respective category. I'm not even a fan of foldable devices and yet the Pixel 9 Pro Fold tempts me every day.

We'll wait for Google's next earnings call, but I expect they'll have a lot to say about the launch of the Pixel 9 series. These phones are so good.

Other notable points in this report suggest that Motorola and Huawei shipped a lot of phones. As expected, Apple and Samsung were still the frontrunners.
