Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemiaa rare form of Bone marrow cancersaid several US media reports on Monday. This diagnosis comes just a month after he was indicted on new sex crime charges.
Weinstein, 72, is currently being treated at Rikers Island Jail. His health is a growing concern, particularly after a recent court appearance in September where he appeared pale and visibly frail.
Chronic myeloid leukemia, as described by the Mayo Clinic, affects the bone marrow and can lead to a number of health complications. Weinstein's diagnosis follows a series of serious health problems, including a hospitalization earlier this year due to positive tests COVID-19 and he was diagnosed with double pneumonia.
He underwent surgery last month Emergency heart surgery to resolve a severe fluid buildup around his lungs and heart, after which his representative assured him that he was “out of danger at the moment.”
Weinstein's health problems come alongside ongoing legal disputes Manhattan prosecutors. Efforts are underway to merge his original 2020 Sex crimes case with the most recent charges, allowing the prosecution to consolidate those charges for a joint trial.
Earlier this year, Weinstein's New York conviction was overturned while he was serving a 23-year prison sentence New York Court of Appeals found that improper verdicts had damaged his case. However, he remains incarcerated and is serving a 16-year sentence for rape following a 2022 conviction in Los Angeles. His legal team is also actively appealing this ruling.
Despite the numerous allegations against him, Weinstein has always denied any allegations of assault or rape, which have had a profound impact on both the film industry and the entire cultural landscape.
