NEW DELHI: After months of intense campaigning, the stage is set as the results of the 2024 assembly elections for Haryana's 90 constituencies will be declared. The ruling BJP is seeking a third consecutive term, while the Congress, buoyed by polls and a decade out of power, is hoping for a comeback.
A three-tier security system was set up at counting centers before counting of votes began at 8 a.m. Postal ballots were counted first, followed by electronic voting machine (EVM) votes.
The Haryana Assembly Elections were conducted in a single phase on October 5 after being postponed by the Election Commission from the original date of October 1. Voter turnout in the 2024 elections for the 15th National Assembly was 67.90%. Sirsa district recorded the highest voter turnout at 75.36% while Faridabad recorded the lowest voter turnout at 56.49%.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) with Azad Samaj Party are the most important parties in the state.
In this year's Haryana Assembly elections, there were a total of 1,031 candidates, with the number of women candidates declining, with only 101 women participating in the race.
According to polls, the Congress will make a victorious comeback after a decade out of power in Haryana. The party is expected to win around 55 seats, easily exceeding the majority threshold of 46 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP is expected to win around 27 seats. The INLD is expected to win two seats and the JJP one seat, and the other parties are expected to win a total of five seats.
