The rafters of the TD Garden will be even more crowded on Tuesday evening.

The Boston Celtics play the first game of the 2024-25 NBA season on Tuesday night against the New York Knicks, and as is tradition, the reigning champions will pass a banner reading “2024 World Champions” to the team in a special pregame ceremony Hoist rafters.

The Celtics will also receive their championship rings in honor of their 18th NBA title, which passed the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in league history.

Boston's 2023–24 season was historic in many ways, as the club set multiple NBA records while posting a 64-18 regular season record (fourth-best in team history) and a 16-3 postseason record culminated in five games with a win in the NBA Finals over the Dallas Mavericks securing Banner 18.

On Tuesday night, the Celtics' historic achievement will be immortalized in a ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET before the game begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.

“I feel like it's becoming a reality now that we're doing this,” Celtics big man Al Horford said Monday before opening night. “Just very grateful for the position I’m in.”
