Hesse: Eintracht draw against Bayern: Last-minute Marmoush saves Eintracht a point

As of: October 6th, 2024 7:32 p.m

Shortly before the end, Eintracht secured a point in the top Bundesliga game against FC Bayern. The hero of Sunday is once again Omar Marmoush.

Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller rotated, ran up and down the touchline, even slipped in the heat of the moment – and quickly shouted Omar Marmoush's last-minute equalizer into the net in the Bundesliga top game against FC Bayern Munich. Shortly before the final whistle, Eintracht secured a point in a wild football game against the record champions with the Egyptian's eighth goal of the season.

After the happy 3:3 (2:2) against the league leader from the south of the republic, the euphoria in the Frankfurt city forest knew no bounds. The goals for the hosts were scored by Marmoush (22nd minute and 90th + 4) and Hugo Ekitiké (35th). Min-jae Kim (15th), Dayot Upamecano (38th) and Michael Olise (53rd) scored for Bayern. Bayern remain first in the table, Eintracht is now third behind RB Leipzig.

Eintracht initially defended far too deeply

Toppmöller had changed to five positions compared to the win at Besiktas Istanbul. Tuta, Ellyes Skhiri, Fares Chaibi, Ansgar Knauff and Ekitiké rotated in the starting eleven. Kevin Trapp wasn't there. The regular goalkeeper has almost recovered from his thigh injury, but did not yet feel fit enough to play. Accordingly, the hero from the Bosphorus, Kaua Santos, started again between the posts.

And the 21-year-old, who played well again, was quickly put to work. After just 90 seconds, the Munich team had penetrated the baseline twice, after ten minutes Thomas Müller and Olise had their first shots – and after a quarter of an hour the ball was in the net. Bayern defender Kim scored from close range as a result of a quickly taken corner. A logical hit, as Eintracht had been operating in an 8-2 system until then. That means: eight men defended in their own box, only two, the two strikers Ekitiké and Marmoush, a few meters in front of them.

Full physical effort: Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller.

Marmoush sprints away from Bayern

The following minutes showed that a goal can also be helpful. Although Bayern quickly had the ball permanently, Eintracht now moved a little further back, was more grippy and struck ice cold. Rasmus Kristensen won the ball, Knauff through ball and Marmoush ran freely to FCB goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who made it 1-1 (22nd).

Eintracht was now on fire, especially Marmoush. In the 35th minute he sprinted over Upamecano, who was completely lame, with the ball, passed it across to Ekitiké, who tunneled Neuer to Frankfurt's lead. An undeserved interim result. On the one hand. On the other hand, Toppmöller's match plan simply couldn't have worked out better with both goals. The hosts acted less well, even poorly, at opposing corners. Once again Bayern made a quick move, once again they kept an overview in the crowd of penalty areas, and again a defender scored, this time Upamecano, to make it 2-2 (38').

Marmoush madness in stoppage time

The direction of the game changed in the second half, but initially the opponents' game orientations did not. Bayern dominated and Eintracht defended. And once again the guests scored an early goal. Olise flicked the ball from the edge of the penalty area into the corner (53'). The Hessians had previously complained about a foul on Marmoush, but referee Benjamin Brand awarded the goal.

For a long time now, Eintracht were no longer able to do what they had managed to do in the first period from the 15th minute onwards: the hasty switchover. The offensives could no longer get behind the Munich defensive line. The result: zero chances to score. The record champions seemed as confident as a record champion. Until the 84th minute. Then the guests suddenly revealed a huge space behind their last chain, Kristensen sprinted in with the ball, passed across, but substitute Eric Dina Ebimbe straggled narrowly into space. The beginning of a hot final phase, the highlight of which was Marmoush's equalizer. Ecstasy in the Waldstadion!
