Honeywell, Google partner for AI-driven industrial operations

Honeywell and Google Cloud are collaborating to transform the industrial sector by integrating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) agents into operations.

The two companies announced their collaboration in a Press release Monday (October 21st). The solutions, which ones are Rollout is expected to begin in 2025 and will leverage Honeywell's Internet of Things platform. Honeywell Forgeand Google Cloud's AI capabilities, particularly the Gemini platform on Vertex AI.

In addition to increasing efficiency by linking systems, personnel and processes, AI-driven solutions are also intended to address labor shortages in many industries by making operations more autonomous.

Than that Baby boom The population is retiring and the industrial sector is more understaffed. Accordingly Honeywell's 2024 Industrial AI Insights Reportwhile 82% of industry leaders are considering it Organizations Among early adopters of AI, only 17% of them fully implemented their initial strategies.

The partnership between Honeywell and Google aims to bridge this gap through the use of AI agents that help upskill the workforce. Or Honeywell Chairman and CEO Vimal Kapur said in the press release: “The path to autonomy requires assets to work harder, people to work smarter and processes to function more efficiently.”

In addition, Honeywell and Google Cloud plan to jointly develop specialized industrial AI agents that will automate project design cycles and streamline maintenance tasks. These agents will leverage Google's large language models to help engineers solve problems more efficiently by processing different types of data – including images, videos, text and sensor readings – resulting in better decision making on the factory floor.

According to the press release, the partnership will also integrate Google Threat Intelligence into Honeywell's cybersecurity offerings, improving threat detection for industrial customers and critical infrastructure security.

“Looking forward, Honeywell will explore using Google’s Gemini Nano model to improve the intelligence of Honeywell’s edge AI devices several Use cases across industries, from scanning performance to voice-based guided workflows, maintenance, operations and alarms help without requiring a connection to the Internet and the cloud. This is the beginning of a new wave of smarter devices and solutions that will be the subject of future announcements from Honeywell,” the press release said.

Unless there is an influx of young talent into the industrial sector, companies will rely on automation and autonomy for their operations. To adapt, there could be more sharing AI tools.
