Horror show in the Survivor Pool: Over 70% of players eliminated in Week 3, Broncos, Panthers, Giants win

In the third consecutive week of the NFL season, the favorite of the Survivor Pool has gone under.

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos surprised the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a dominant 26-7 victory at Raymond James Stadium in Florida on Sunday afternoon. The win was the Broncos' first of the season and the first of Nix's career in the league.

Perhaps more importantly, the upset victory eliminated nearly 30% of the participants in the Yahoo Sports Survivor Pool. An incredible 29.99% of the remaining participants in the Yahoo Sports Survivor Pool picked the Buccaneers to win on Sunday in one of the biggest picks of the weekend.

The Cleveland Browns shot nearly 13% on Sunday but lost 21-15 at home to the New York Giants. It was the first win of the season for the Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones, who threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns to Malik Nabers. The win came after the Giants lost possession and allowed a touchdown in the first 11 seconds of the game.

In total, almost 43% of entries were eliminated by users.

Then, in the afternoon wave, the Carolina Panthers, with veteran quarterback Andy Dalton at the helm, took their first win of the season in dominant fashion. The Panthers won comfortably 36-22 over the Las Vegas Raiders, eliminating almost 25% of the participants.

Thanks to these three games, an incredible 67.89% of the participants were eliminated.

The San Francisco 49ers also stumbled in the final minutes of their game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon, eliminating another 3% of entries. That brought the total number of entries eliminated to over 70%. In total, 72.66% of entries were eliminated before Sunday Night Football and the two games on Monday that conclude the Week 3 schedule.

It was the third consecutive week of massive eliminations from the Survivor Pool this season. About 43% of users were eliminated in Week 1 after the New England Patriots defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, and last week more than 29% of users were eliminated when the Raiders defeated the Baltimore Ravens.

The Broncos wasted no time on Sunday, jumping out to a 17-0 lead after Nix and running back Jaleel McLaughlin scored short touchdowns in the first quarter and Will Lutz nailed a 43-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

Despite not scoring another touchdown the rest of the way through the period, Denver shut down Baker Mayfield and the Bucs in the second half, holding Tampa Bay scoreless after Mayfield's 7-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin late in the second quarter. Lutz kicked two more field goals in the fourth quarter to seal the 19-point victory.

Mayfield, who led the Bucs to back-to-back wins to start the season, finished the losing effort completing 25 of 33 passes for 163 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Bucky Irving added 70 rushing yards on nine carries and Godwin had 53 yards and a touchdown on six catches.

Nix completed 25 of 36 passes for 216 yards and had 49 yards on eight carries, including a touchdown on the ground. Running back Tyler Badie had 70 yards on nine carries. Courtland Sutton had 68 yards on seven catches.

Even though the NFL season is less than a month old, Survivor Pool registrations seem to be dropping at an ever-increasing rate each week.
