Howard Stern tells Kamala Harris he hates watching her SNL portrayal

  • Kamala Harris sat down for a friendly interview with radio host Howard Stern on Tuesday.
  • He said he hates seeing her made fun of on SNL — but she doesn't mind.
  • The duo also discussed Harris' background, abortion and Trump's authoritarian tendencies.

At the start of Howard Stern's interview with Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, the longtime radio host made a notable comment.

He doesn't like Harris being satirized on “Saturday Night Live.”

I hate it. “I don’t want people to make fun of you,” Stern told Harris. “There's too much at stake.” I believe the entire future of this country is literally at stake right now.

The latest season of Saturday Night Live premiered Earlier this month, with Maya Rudolph on repeat role portrayed by Harris. The actress and comedian has been doing this since the 2020 Democratic primaries.

For her part, the vice president didn't seem to mind. “It was funny,” Harris said of the latest episode. “I’m a big fan of Maya Rudolph, so I think she put a lot of time into the play and the character.”

That set the tone for the rest of the interview, which lasted more than an hour and covered topics such as her career as a prosecutor, her views on abortion, former President Donald Trump and democracy.

It is part of a new media offensive by the vice president, which also includes an appearance on the Internet Call Her Daddy Podcasta sit-down with “The View” and an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show on Tuesday.

Much of what Harris said in the interview was not new and covered topics she had discussed in previous interviews or at political events.

Towards the end of the interview, Harris acknowledged the burden carried by the “sandwich generation” – a cohort of adults tasked with caring for both children and aging parents.

“Probably a lot of your listeners are part of the sandwich generation,” Harris said.

Early Tuesday, Harris proposed a new proposal Medicare benefits to meet the home care needs of older adults, including services such as home care assistance.

“People don’t know this yet unless they care for someone older,” Stern said, noting that his mother is 97 years old. “It will bankrupt you.”
