Huntley Fall Fest and Algonquin Kite Fest – Shaw Local

Here are five things you can do this weekend:

Autumn festival: The 19th annual Huntley Fall Fest will be held Friday through Sunday at Deicke Park, 12012 Mill St. The free-admission event features live music, a beer garden, food vendors, a carnival, car shows, a craft show and Saturday night fireworks and plenty of fall activities. Visit the children's area for trampoline shows, arcade games, magic shows, laser tag and ice cream eating contests. Musical performances include Modern Day Romeos, Hairbangers Ball and Tennessee Whiskey. For more information, visit the Huntley Fall Fest website: huntleyfallfest.com.

House tour: Tour historic homes at the Crystal Lake Service League Housewalk on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This year's theme is “Sweet Home Crystal Lake” and focuses on four downtown homes. Participants can explore the unique features inside and outside of the homes as Service League members and volunteers point out the remarkable history and details of each home. Visit the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., to tour the historic theater and take part in a separate bourbon and bubbles tasting. Tickets are $50 for the tour and $10 for the beverage tasting at the Raue Center. For more information about the Crystal Lake Service League Housewalk, visit: slcrystallake.org/housewalk.php.

Run for the mountains: Support Moraine Hills State Park with the Run for the Hills 5K, 10K and half marathon starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Moraine Hills State Park, 1510 S. River Road, McHenry. Participants can walk or run any of three distances through the scenic park full of lakes, swamps and wildlife. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization Friends of Moraine Hills, which preserves and restores nature reserves and provides college programs and environmental scholarships. Registration costs between $30 and $60. Learn more about Moraine Hills' Run for the Hills and register here: friendsofmorainehillsstatepark.org.

Walk through farms: Explore nearly a dozen farms at the McHenry County Farm Stroll on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year's walk includes farms in Harvard, Hebron, Woodstock, Bull Valley and Crystal Lake. The self-guided tour includes demonstrations, children's activities, and hayrides at some locations. New stops on the walk this year include Hitch N'Post Alpaca and Lama Farm in Woodstock, Bull Valley Farm Country Store and Cow Valley Creamery, and Middlebury Farms and Jorge's Farm in Harvard. The walk is free, but bring cash as many farms have produce and products for sale. More details can be found here: mchenrycfb.org/farmstroll.

Fly a kite: Meet kite enthusiasts at the Algonquin Kite Fest on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Spella Park, 2610 Harnish Drive. Fly your own kite as music plays and giant kites are performed and stunt flyers' demonstrations fill the sky. The first 250 children will receive a free paper kite to decorate and fly. Kites and food will be available for sale at the event. More information about the Algonquin Kite Fest can be found here: bit.ly/ALQkitefest.
