Hurricane center forecasters are keeping an eye on another potential storm system in the Atlantic

Oct. 14 (UPI) — As Floridians continue to clean up after last week's deadly Category 3 Hurricane Milton, and U.S. residents in the Southeast do the same after last month's Category 4 Hurricane Helene, blamed for hundreds of deaths , storm center forecasters are watching another possible tropical disturbance in the central Atlantic.

In a warning Monday afternoon, meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said they were monitoring “a well-defined area of low pressure” between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles. Meteorologists said the low pressure system was already producing some rainfall and thunderstorms.

The good news in Monday's NHC announcement is that dry air continues to be part of the region's environment, making it unlikely to develop in the next few days.

“However, this system is forecast to move generally westward toward warmer waters, and environmental conditions may become more favorable for gradual development by mid to late this week,” NHC forecasters said in the statement. “A tropical depression could form as the system begins to move west-northwestward and approaches or approaches the Leeward Islands later this week.”

The NHC said there is only a 10 percent chance of a storm forming in the next few days. But after about a week, the chance of a tropical storm forming increases to 60 percent, forecasters say.
