Hurricane Milton and Florida make landfall. Are theme parks closed?

If you haven't already canceled or adjusted your theme park plans for this week, you already have.

Ahead of Hurricane Milton's landfall, all of Florida's major theme parks closed for the next few days to prepare for the storm and ensure the safety of guests and employees.

Beginning Wednesday, October 9, Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast, possibly just south of the mouth of Tampa Bay. The path will fluctuate and has a margin of error of about 40 miles within 24 hours, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Landfall is expected to occur between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Hurricane Milton is expected to emerge as either a Category 3 or Category 4 storm.

From Disney World to Busch Gardens, see amusement park closures caused by Hurricane Milton Florida

Were you planning on visiting one of Florida's theme parks this week? All of the state's top parks were closed because of Milton. Here's what you should know:

Disney World in Orlando, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom

On Wednesday, October 9th, the theme parks and Disney Springs will begin a phased closure starting at 1:00 p.m. ET:

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park close at 1:00 p.m
  • Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Disney Springs close at 2:00 p.m

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park is also canceled for Thursday, October 10th. Event tickets will be refunded.

They previously made some adjustments based on the latest weather forecast and some areas with unique environments:

  • Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (including dining and recreational facilities), the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and the Treehouse Villas at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will close beginning Wednesday, October 9th at 11 a.m. and may remain closed through Sunday .
  • Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are scheduled to remain closed through Sunday, October 13th.
  • Copper Creek Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is scheduled to reopen on Friday, October 11th.

Universal Orlando: Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Wizarding World of Harry Potter

On Wednesday, October 9th, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Universal CityWalk will be open until 2:00 p.m. weather permitting and will be closed on Thursday, October 10th.

Volcano Bay remains closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Hotel operations will continue.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida are canceled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Busch Gardens officials sent a news release Monday: “After reviewing the latest path of Hurricane Milton and to ensure the safety of our ambassadors, guests and animals, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will remain closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, October 8-10 closed.” .

“Our weather preparedness plan is in place and additional precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of our animals during this time.”

Howl-O-Scream is also canceled for Thursday, October 10th. Tickets can be used for all remaining Howl-O-Scream event nights.

SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica and Discovery Cove will be closed on Wednesday, October 9th and Thursday, October 10th.

Discovery Cove has released a statement for those scheduled to come during these dates.

LEGOLAND Florida

LEGOLAND Florida will be closed on Wednesday, October 9th and Thursday, October 10th.

When will Florida theme parks reopen after Hurricane Milton?

Disney world: Officials have not announced a reopening date; They said the theme parks will likely remain closed on Thursday, October 10. Disney said it is considering opening Disney Springs in the late afternoon with limited offerings.

Universal Orlando: As of Wednesday, Universal officials anticipate a full reopening of our destination, including Halloween Horror Nights, on Friday, October 11, during our normal operating hours until the impacts of the storm are resolved.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, SeaWorld Orlando: Officials said they will stay tuned for information about reopening parks after the storm on Friday, Oct. 11.

LEGOLAND Florida: Officials have not announced a reopening date. As of Wednesday, reopening is planned for Friday, October 11th.

More Florida attractions, park closures

  • Gatorland: The theme park will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, October 9th and 10th, due to Category 5 Hurricane Milton. The Ghosts and Goblins Halloween event was still scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 12th and 13th. Visit gatorland.com.
  • Fun spot America: Orlando and Kissimmee parks will be closed Wednesday, October 9th and Thursday, October 10th.
  • Kennedy Space Center: NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will remain closed on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10, due to expected severe weather from Hurricane Milton. The launch of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy Europa Clipper rocket from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station near the Kennedy Space Center was originally scheduled for October 9th. The highly anticipated launch was postponed earlier this week due to the Category 5 storm.
