“I can't explain what I would give to hug you one last time and say goodbye”

Zayn Malik paid tribute to Liam Payne in an emotional post dedicated to his former One Direction bandmate.

“Liam, I was talking to you out loud, hoping you could hear me. I can’t help but selfishly think that there were so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” Malik wrote on Instagram. “I have never been able to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times of my life.”

Malik continued, “When I was missing home as a 17-year-old child, you were always there with a positive attitude and a reassuring smile, letting me know that you were my friend and that I was loved. Even though you were younger than me, you were always more sensible than me, you were headstrong, opinionated and didn't give a damn about telling people when they were wrong.”

“I lost a brother when you left us and I cannot explain to you what I would give to hug you one last time, say goodbye, and tell you that I loved and respected you very much “he continued. “I will keep all the memories I have with you in my heart forever. There are no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than being completely devastated.” I hope that wherever you are right now you are well and at peace and know how “very much you are loved.”

For protocol reasons, prosecutors said the incident was being investigated as a “doubtful death,” even though it appeared the musician was alone when the fall occurred.
