“I missed the whole thing”…Joe Rogan and Conor McGregor react to Shara “Bullet” Magomedov’s stunning UFC 308 knockout

Shara Magomedov's insane knockout on Saturday night sent UFC fans into hysterics, but two of the sport's biggest names weren't so sure.

The unbeaten middleweight landed an unprecedented double spinning backfist to stop Armen Petrosyan at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi, marking his third victory in an impressive fourth Octagon appearance. He has been pushing for activity this year, fighting three times since his knockout win in Riyadh in late June.

Now Magomedov wants to move up the rankings quickly and wants to be a much bigger name next time. After controversially coming out in favor of Nick Diaz following his last win in August, he made a more tactical push for Israel Adesanya this time around.

Shara Magomedov scores a brutal and unprecedented knockout at UFC 308

In the opening match of the main card at UFC 308, Shara Magomedov appeared to be battling for two rounds with Armen Petrosyan, who was desperate to get back in the win column after his last outing. In the early exchanges it appeared that Petrosyan might be on his way to an upset as he left the Russian reeling.

But Magomedov recovered and managed to survive the round. Leg kicks were a key part of both men's games, and Shara “Bullet” used them to his advantage, as he had in his previous UFC victories in recent months.

And as the second round neared its end, Magomedov threw a spinning punch that stunned Petrosyan. Within a split second, he landed another punch by turning in the opposite direction, knocking his opponent unconscious.

After his win, he pushed for a fight with Israel Adesanya, the two-time former champion who had just lost his last bid for gold to Dricus Du Plessis. “I am happy, very happy. Listen to me, I am the best striker in this division, I will smash Israel Adesanya,” Magomedov claimed in his Octagon interview.

Joe Rogan missed Shara Magomedov's stunning UFC 308 KO

While fans were losing their minds on social media, Joe Rogan hosted a fight attendant at his Austin compound to watch the fight. He comments on all American pay-per-view broadcasts, but he hasn't covered an international event or fight night in years, preferring to stream his reactions with friends from home.

Joined by comedians Bryan Callen and Brendan Schaub, as well as jiu-jitsu superstar Eddie Bravo, Rogan was railing about his own former fighting career when Magomedov reached the finish. He had his back turned to the screen as he spoke about being dropped before his co-hosts reacted loudly.

He immediately turned around and as Bravo raved about what he had seen, Rogan was heard saying, “Oh man, I missed the whole thing.” He later added in a moment of levity but with a hint of disappointment in his voice Voice, adding: “Damn, I talk too much.”

Conor McGregor was also a keen observer that evening, watching the fights from his luxury yacht while placing another big money bet. He had no stakes in the Magomedov fight, but bet $500,000 on the main and co-main events.

However, the results were not right for the Irishman, who relied on knockout victories from Max Holloway and Robert Whittaker against Ilia Topuria and Khamzat Chimaev respectively. He appeared unfazed by the loss and repeated his catchphrase “The rich are getting richer” afterwards.

It was his second bet of this amount in seven days to go against him, having backed Renan Ferreira's win over Francis Ngannou last weekend. He believed the PFL Super Fights event would end in a knockout, which it did, but chose the wrong heavyweight.

As for Magomedov, he seemed unfazed by the Russian, who moved to 15-0 with the win. He tweeted and almost immediately deleted a message branding the Russian with the juvenile nickname “Shart Bullets.”
