“I think I did the right thing” – Lando Norris stays in Verstappen’s fight in Austin after penalty

When Norris was asked after the race to give his perspective on the altercation – and to share his thoughts on why he didn't give the seat back to Verstappen as a precaution – he explained: “I mean, I obviously didn't give the seat back because we thought we were in.” the right thing – obviously we weren’t.

“I still think we did that considering Max went off the track – normally when you're defending your position and you go off the track you have to give up position.” In this case I was ahead, I kept my position because he had to give it back, and that's how it is.

“I think I did the right thing, but I don't make the rules. Max rode well, it was a fun race between us, a good fight. He defended well, he did everything he had to do.”

Norris continued to criticize his own performance at Circuit of The Americas, continuing: “I didn't have enough today, I didn't ride particularly well. It was a big challenge with the tires and the car, it was a difficult day.

“It's hard when you're at the limit and doing your best, the tires are old and hot and it's slippery, it's easy to make mistakes – things like that happen.” But yeah, I didn't do enough today, I'm not good I’ve ridden enough – I understand that, so I need to make some improvements.”
