“I was critical, it was fantastic”: Kiffin praises record audience

Two weeks ago, Ole Miss fans provided the second-largest crowd (66,427) in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium history.

For Middle Tennessee.

Georgia Southern was a cut above the competition, but its name recognition was negligible. Ole Miss doesn't open SEC play – against Kentucky – until Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on ABC.

And yet the fans flocked to Oxford with the largest crowd ever (67,505). The critics — of which the fifth Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was probably the most vocal – can put their public floggings on hold for a while.

“It’s good to get to 4-0,” Kiffin said after the Rebels’ 52-13 victory over the Eagles“The fans were great. They came at kick-off and the stadium was packed, from every angle you looked it was completely packed. It was great.”

“I know the players and the new recruits notice that. I've been critical; I want to make sure that I point out when it's been great, just like our players do. That was really great to see.”

Ole Miss (4-0) looks back at its conference slate after scoring the most points (220) in its history in four games.

Star wide receiver Tre Harris set a new career high in receiving yards with 225, the 10th 200-yard game in Ole Miss history. Harris matched his career high in receptions; his 11 are now the fifth-most in a single game by a Rebel.

He scored two touchdowns.

“We try to be a violent team first and foremost. An explosive (and) fun team,” Harris said.

Third-year quarterback Jaxson Dart has the most passing yards after four games of all SEC quarterbacks in the last 20 seasons. The Rebels' defense finally allowed its first touchdown of the season. However, the Rebels held their opponents out of the end zone for the first 195:48 minutes of the season – the longest opening period for Ole Miss since 1959.

Harris continued: “All the fans come to see us do our show. That's what we try to do every Saturday. All I can say is I'm grateful for all the fans and the support we get.”

“Just hope we get it back next Saturday.”
