“I would like to see him in prison for the rest of his life,” Hazel Green’s driver said of the road rage suspect

The Madison County Sheriff's Department has obtained arrest warrants for a man accused of shooting a Hazel Green driver and her two children earlier this week.

“Our office yesterday received arrest warrants for James William Moore, 45, who is currently being held in the Lincoln County, Tennessee Jail awaiting extradition to Alabama,” department spokesman Brent Patterson wrote in an Oct. 23 email AL.com.

“The timeline for Moore’s return to Madison County has not yet been determined as he may face a trial in Tennessee related to similar allegations.”

Moore was criminally charged with one count of Criminal Mischief 1st, one count of Reckless Endangerment and one count of Menacing with bonds totaling $3,100.

At approximately 8:10 a.m. on Oct. 21, sheriffs received a report of a “traffic riot” at the Hazel Green Walmart on Highway 231, AL.com previously reported.

Initial investigation revealed that the incident began near Taft, Tennessee, when the suspect, identified as Moore, allegedly followed the victim, struck the victim's vehicle and fired a weapon toward the vehicle.

The suspect then pursued the victim to the Walmart in Hazel Green, where he struck the victim's vehicle with a baseball bat before fleeing the scene, the release said. The victim reported no injuries.

Further investigation led to Moore's arrest in Lincoln County, Tennessee, in an unrelated matter.

Victim Lauren Davis told WAFF 48 she was left with streaks and scratches on her vehicle, a chip in her window and two traumatized children.

Davis said she was walking with her 5- and 2-year-old children Monday morning when she realized something was wrong with the person following her.

“I could see the anger on his face in my rear view… I don't know why he's so mad at me,” she told WAFF. “I looked over and he pulled out a long-barreled rifle and shot me and I had my kids in the car.”

After Moore rammed her car, Davis immediately called 911.

“At some point after he shot me, and that was probably the scariest part of all, my car stopped working… I was like, that's it.”

After finally passing him, Davis pulled into a Walmart in Hazel Green and ran in with her children. Moore then began hitting her window with a baseball bat but was unable to break it.

“I would like to see him in prison for the rest of his life,” David said.

This incident occurred two days after another driver was run off the road and shots were fired in Hazel Green. Authorities currently believe the events are unrelated, and Patterson said sheriffs are working to resolve the issue quickly.

“Last week’s recent road rage incidents sent shockwaves throughout our community and left residents in a state of outrage,” he wrote.

“These incidents have sparked widespread condemnation and calls for increased action to address the growing problem of road rage in the region. Many residents have taken to social media to express their outrage and concern over the incidents of road violence.”

“The Madison County Sheriff’s Office takes incidents of this nature seriously and is committed to swift and decisive action to ensure the safety of our roads and the well-being of our community,” the email continued.

“We will use all available resources to investigate and address this behavior and will work tirelessly to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Our top priority is the safety of our citizens and we will not tolerate behavior that jeopardizes this.”
