If the Braintree Red Line does not operate in November: Shuttle information

QUINCY – After closing the Braintree Red Line branch in September for a three-week service outage, the MBTA has announced more disruptive maintenance in November. The work will impact sections of the Orange, Green and Red Lines, as well as commuter lines to Franklin, Fitchburg and Lowell.

“These service changes are designed to carry out important work as part of the Track Improvement Program,” the T’s announcement said.

“The track improvement program will replace tracks and ties to alleviate speed restrictions along the route, while crews maximize outage by carrying out signaling work and upgrades to station facilities, including new lighting, painting, tiling, pressure washing and more.”

Impact on Red Line service and rider options

There will be no Red Line service between Broadway and North Quincy from November 5th to 10th. There will be free shuttle buses. According to the T's announcement, riders should use the Middleboro, Kingston and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines for free service between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass and South Station.

Service between Broadway and Ashmont will be suspended on November 9th and 10th, with trains replaced by free shuttle buses.

During the week of November 18-24, Red Line service between Harvard and Broadway will be suspended. According to T., shuttle buses will serve all stops between these stations, with the exception of Park Street and Downtown Crossing. Commuter Rail service between Braintree and South Station will be free on these dates.
