Tiffany Henyard, the scandal-plagued Democratic mayor of Dolton, Illinois, announced she will run for a second term.

“Beware, beware, beware, beware,” Henyard wrote in a Facebook post. “I’m running for re-election as mayor of Dolton.”

She was first elected mayor of Dolton, a south Chicago suburb, in 2021 after serving two terms as a trustee on the village board. She won the election in a landslide, receiving more than 80% of the vote.

Henyard, who proclaimed herself a “super mayor,” was called “the worst mayor in America” by residents. She received the nickname after her term in office was marked by controversy, including monetary mismanagement.

The announcement of her re-election came as she led a lawsuit against several village trustees, the Dolton Park district, the village clerk and the village manager.

The litigation stems from a previous controversial village board meeting where Henyard claims he violated procedures.

Henyard's alleged misuse of taxpayer money made national headlines after the former mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot has previously conducted research them for their extravagant spending habits.

Lightfoot's investigation An examination of the city's financial condition found in a preliminary report that Dolton's total fund balance was $5.61 million in 2022, but by May 2024 the balance had fallen to a deficit of $3.65 million.

Lightfoot also revealed that Henyard used the village's credit card to make the payment Purchases on AmazonTarget, Walgreens, Wayfair and other retailers. A stunning statement revealed that the embattled mayor lost $33,000 on Amazon on January 5, 2023.

Henyard also threw extravagant parties – all at taxpayer expense. A party with R&B singer Keke Wyatt and rapper J. Holiday cost taxpayers about $85,000.

Despite the ongoing challenges, Henyard remains confident in her leadership.

She announced that an official event to announce the campaign would be held later this month.
